Float Phlebotomist I

Duration:3 months
Location: North Charleston – 3825 Faber Place Drive, North Charleston, SC

Float Position: Candidate will be required to travel to various locations, including:

• Mt. Pleasant, SC
• West Ashley, SC
• Goose Creek, SC
• Summerville, SC
• Walterboro, SC

Shift: 1st Shift

• Monday–Friday
• 6:00 AM–5:00 PM
• 8-hour shifts
• Start time may be as early as 6:00 AM depending on the location being covered

Interview Mode: Individual Interview – Onsite

Vaccination Required: TB

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist I will perform blood draws and specimen collection while supporting laboratory operations. The role also involves troubleshooting, maintaining accurate records, following established procedures, and assisting with workflow recommendations and training as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Collect other specimens, including urine and fecal specimens, when required.
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients.
• Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify physician orders.
• Compare test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens appropriately for transportation.
• Maintain specimen integrity by following required storage temperatures and transportation protocols.
• Update patient information and maintain accurate laboratory records.
• Perform equipment decontamination and record maintenance data.
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable laboratory procedures.
• Attend required annual department training.
• Answer telephone calls and assist with laboratory-related inquiries, including reading laboratory results when appropriate.
• Travel between assigned locations as required for this float position.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Valid Phlebotomy Certification, where required by the state of employment.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and travel between multiple assigned locations.
• Strong attention to detail and specimen identification accuracy.
