Location: Aibonito, PR Shift: Shift C — Monday through Thursday, 10:00 PM–5:00 AM (8-hour shifts), and Friday, 10:00 PM–10:00 AM (12-hour shift)
Job purpose Operates and monitors extrusion machinery to produce tubing according to established specifications, procedures, and validated operating parameters. Performs quality inspections, routine maintenance, minor mechanical adjustments, documentation, and material handling activities to ensure safe and efficient production.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Set up, fine-tune, adjust, and start extrusion machines to produce tubing according to established specifications and procedures.
Monitor machine operation and ensure processes remain within predetermined and/or validated operating parameters.
Perform tests to verify tubing speed, wall thickness, texture, and inside diameter using manual measuring instruments and computerized electronic equipment, including On-Line Control and LaserMike.
Perform water chlorination tests for tube cooling to determine water quality and chlorine concentration in parts per million (ppm).
Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance, including cleaning, greasing, and lubricating machinery.
Adjust or replace simple machine components to maintain equipment in optimal operating condition.
Use general mechanical hand tools to perform minor adjustments to machinery.
Feed the machine with the appropriate material mixture required for production and reprocess scrap with virgin material when applicable.
Monitor automatic controllers to ensure the process remains within established and/or validated parameters.
Perform general maintenance and minor mechanical adjustments as needed.
Complete documentation related to machine operating parameters, including the die sizes used, and verify that they correspond to the established specifications for each tubing code.
Identify and take appropriate action when process parameter deviations or incidents occur that may affect product quality.
Package finished tubing by covering it with plastic and placing it into boxes.
Inspect and document materials according to plant procedures and specifications.
Perform sampling activities according to established procedures and specifications.
Transport raw materials and extruded products to and from the warehouse area.
Document required information manually, such as through Checker Charts, and/or electronically through applicable POMS modules. Documentation may include process parameters, lot numbers, production information, and other required data.
Prepare production, downtime, scrap, pre-run check-out, Checker Chart, and other required reports.
Complete approved TIQ training to perform visual and dimensional inspections of tubing and determine product disposition based on inspection results.
Maintain and safeguard all tools and equipment provided for the position.
Comply at all times with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), company rules, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations.
Identify EHS-related opportunities and generate I Care Cards as required.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one year of experience with programmable controllers.
Experience in extrusion processes is preferred.
Experience in material inspection and disposition, including TIQ, is preferred.
Work requirements
Ability to operate and monitor extrusion equipment safely and effectively.
Ability to perform visual and dimensional inspections according to established procedures and specifications.
Ability to perform basic mechanical adjustments and routine equipment maintenance.
Ability to accurately complete required production and quality documentation.
Must follow all applicable GMP, GDP, EHS, safety, and company procedures.
