Position Overview: Our client is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership and supervision to engineers and technicians supporting its power-generation facilities. This individual will oversee electrical testing, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, major equipment outages, and the design and implementation of new electrical and control systems. The Principal Engineer will also support capital projects, plant modifications, reliability initiatives, budgeting, performance analysis, and compliance with NERC/SERC standards.
The position can be based at the client's headquarters in Tucker but will require approximately 30%–40% travel, primarily to the Macon/Smarr plant and other generation facilities as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise a team of engineers and technicians supporting preventive and predictive maintenance and capital-project execution.
Plan and coordinate major equipment and generator outages.
Oversee the design, selection, installation, and implementation of major electrical equipment, control systems, and plant systems.
Manage electrical testing and preventive/predictive maintenance programs at client-owned, operated, or contracted generation facilities.
Plan, review, and monitor annual electrical inspections and prepare related reports.
Serve as the client’s subject-matter expert for electrical power engineering and preventive/predictive maintenance.
Provide technical support to plant managers and senior plant personnel.
Design new plant systems and modifications to existing equipment and systems.
Support facility planning, budgeting, maintenance analysis, and operational-performance evaluation.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, design memoranda, and other technical documentation for generation projects in development or under construction.
Provide engineering support for compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and applicable SERC requirements.
Evaluate work required for regulatory compliance and oversee its execution.
Develop procedures, technical documentation, and compliance evidence.
Coordinate plant personnel and contractors during equipment inspections, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, modifications, rehabilitation, and project execution.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology; a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred.
At least 10 years of engineering experience.
At least five years of preventive and predictive maintenance experience within an operating commercial electric power-generation facility.
Experience supporting plant operations, major equipment outages, electrical testing, maintenance planning, budgeting, and maintenance-performance analysis.
At least two years of leadership or performance-management experience, including direct supervision of employees.
Strong technical knowledge of power-generation plant operations, performance, reliability, and economics.
Experience working directly with plant managers and senior plant personnel.
Valid driver’s license that meets the requirements of the client’s Driver Qualification Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Professional Engineer certification.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Experience designing or modifying electrical and control systems within power-generation facilities.
Experience supporting NERC Reliability Standards and developing related procedures, documentation, and compliance evidence.
Experience providing engineering oversight for capital projects and major generator or equipment outages.

Travel and Scheduling Requirements:
Approximately 30%–40% travel to client's generation facilities.
The employee may be based at the Tucker but must travel to the Macon/Smarr plant and other facilities as required.
The client’s generation plants operate 24 hours a day.
The Principal Engineer may need to remain onsite outside normal working hours during forced outages, planned maintenance outages, commissioning activities, or plant meetings.
The position carries a 24-hour on-call responsibility for incidents affecting the operation, output, or reliability of client’s generation assets.
Physical and Working Conditions:
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus, cartridge respirators, and supplied-air respirators.
Work may be performed in office, plant, and outdoor environments.
Potential exposure to noise, dust, oil, grease, dirt, extreme temperatures, and varying weather conditions.
Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, over or near water, around high-voltage equipment, and in awkward physical positions.
