The Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting preventative maintenance, common repair work and troubleshooting of vehicles, farm implements, UTV’s, trailers, tractors, construction equipment, gensets, sprayers, forklifts and small engine equipment at the Hawaii Research Center.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting preventative maintenance, common repair work and troubleshooting of vehicles, farm implements, UTV’s, trailers, tractors, construction equipment, gensets, sprayers, forklifts and small engine equipment at the Hawaii Research Center.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct various equipment and vehicle maintenance:
- Including but not limited to Preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and basic repairs.
- Establish positive working relationships with coworkers at the 4 client sites here on Kauai.
- Ability to work in a shop setting along with the occasional field repair.
- Locates, investigates and diagnoses equipment failures, irregularities and malfunctions and ensures timely corrective actions.
- May recommend basic design changes and incorporate approved changes into existing equipment.
- Ability to work with others as well as independently in the performance of maintenance tasks. Practice safety programs and policies as needed for all farm equipment, maintenance activities and by Client and OSHA safety practices.
- Two-year technical degree and 3 or more years of related experience or equivalent amounts of related education and experience required.
- Experience in the repair and operation of farm and heavy equipment is desired.
- Understanding of heavy equipment operation, Understanding of Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and ability to troubleshoot and repair these systems.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) in English and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and provide input into team discussions and decisions. Computer skills.
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Programs.
- Ability to stand/sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a team setting with others of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work outside in a tropical agriculture setting with year-round demand on fleet vehicles and farm equipment. Flexible to work extra hours during evenings, weekends and holidays during peak periods when required.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 60 pounds.
- Hold a Valid Class 4 driver's license (CDL) or higher or ability to acquire one.
- Ability to pass a aptitude test related to the job requirements.
- Ability to fulfill general employment expectations including regular attendance and working specified hours or overtime as defined by supervisor, acceptance of supervision, getting along with others in the workplace, maintaining acceptable standards of office conduct, etc.
