The Role

The Senior Director, Women and Children Services provides system‑wide operational leadership for Women’s and Children’s Services across Swedish Medical Center. This role is responsible for recommending strategic direction and overseeing all administrative, operational, and financial aspects of care delivery, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements.

Accountable for fostering a culture of safety and excellence, the Senior Director assesses, implements, and evaluates patient care delivery to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance with professional, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. The role provides system‑wide leadership in the evaluation, standardization, and implementation of Women’s and Children’s Services programs, ensuring regulatory readiness and accreditation compliance across Swedish.

As a key member of Senior Leadership, the Senior Director plays an active role in advancing an integrated healthcare system that delivers exceptional outcomes in a fiscally responsible manner. Working in both direct‑line and matrixed relationships with Medical Directors, Managers, Senior Leaders, and the elected Chief of Obstetrics / Women’s & Children’s Services, this leader organizes and directs nursing and clinical operations to ensure safe, appropriate, and cost‑effective patient care.

With a strong commitment to standardization and system consistency, the Senior Director minimizes service fragmentation while promoting best practices, operational alignment, and a seamless patient and family experience.

What You’ll Do

Strategic & Market Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of strategies to maintain and grow market share for Women’s and Children’s Services.
  • Analyze referral patterns and patient demand to inform business development initiatives.
  • Define strategic direction in alignment with Swedish’s system‑wide strategic plan.

Financial & Operational Stewardship

  • Develop and manage annual department budgets, ensuring achievement of financial, productivity, and performance targets.
  • Establish and manage operational benchmarks related to efficiency, outcomes, and service delivery.
  • Optimize the use of resources to achieve cost‑effective, high‑quality operations.

Clinical Quality & Safety

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure sustained compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all departments.
  • Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.

Medical Staff & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain collaborative, trust‑based relationships with medical staff and clinical leaders.
  • Ensure effective communication and alignment across interdisciplinary and multi‑departmental teams.
  • Partner with Swedish leadership, affiliates, and community stakeholders to advance strategic and clinical goals.

Leadership & Change Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing management team.
  • Guide teams through transformational change by engaging staff and encouraging participation and accountability.
  • Make thoughtful, effective hiring decisions to strengthen leadership depth and culture.

Infrastructure & Resource Planning

  • Identify and coordinate facility, equipment, and systems needs to support state‑of‑the‑art care environments.
  • Partner on technology and infrastructure planning to support evolving clinical and operational needs.

What You’ll Bring

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (required)
  • Washington Registered Nurse License (required upon hire; vendor‑managed)

Experience & Expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership in high‑performing obstetrics and Women’s & Children’s Services, preferably within multi‑institutional systems
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Proven success achieving benchmark performance in caregiver engagement, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Strong knowledge of patient care operations, reimbursement practices, and healthcare market dynamics

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
