9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Job Summary
The Phlebotomist V is a senior-level role responsible for performing advanced phlebotomy procedures, specimen processing, troubleshooting operational issues, training staff, and supporting workflow improvements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in blood collection, specimen handling, and laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles.
- Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
- Verify laboratory requisitions and ensure specimen labeling accuracy.
- Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transportation procedures.
- Update and maintain patient demographic and medical information accurately.
- Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination procedures.
- Explain specimen collection procedures clearly and professionally to patients.
- Review physician orders to ensure proper specimen collection requirements are met.
- Respond to laboratory inquiries and provide information as appropriate.
- Assist with troubleshooting, workflow recommendations, and staff training.
- Adhere to OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.
- Participate in annual departmental training and compliance programs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state regulations).
- Minimum 10+ years of phlebotomy experience.
- At least 6 months of recent experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
- Strong specimen processing and handling experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
