Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Job Summary
The Phlebotomist V will perform advanced phlebotomy duties while assisting with troubleshooting, staff training, and workflow improvement initiatives. This role requires extensive experience in specimen collection, processing, patient interaction, and laboratory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles.
- Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
- Verify laboratory requisitions and specimen labeling for accuracy.
- Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transportation procedures.
- Update and maintain patient information accurately.
- Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination.
- Explain specimen collection procedures clearly and professionally to patients.
- Review physician orders and ensure proper specimen collection requirements are met.
- Answer laboratory-related inquiries and provide appropriate information.
- Assist with troubleshooting, workflow recommendations, and training of staff.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.
- Attend required annual departmental training sessions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state regulations).
- Minimum 10+ years of phlebotomy experience.
- At least 6 months of recent experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
- Strong specimen processing and handling experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
