Job Summary

The Phlebotomist V will perform advanced phlebotomy duties, assist with workflow optimization, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and recommend process improvements. This role requires extensive experience in specimen collection, handling, processing, and patient interaction while maintaining compliance with laboratory and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles.
• Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
• Verify laboratory requisitions and ensure specimen accuracy.
• Maintain specimen integrity by following proper storage and transportation protocols.
• Update and maintain patient information accurately.
• Perform equipment maintenance documentation and decontamination procedures.
• Explain specimen collection procedures clearly and professionally to patients.
• Review physician orders and ensure proper specimen collection requirements are met.
• Answer laboratory-related inquiries and communicate test information as appropriate.
• Assist with troubleshooting, workflow recommendations, and training of staff.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEP, and all laboratory safety regulations.
• Attend required departmental training sessions.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state regulations).
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 10+ years of phlebotomy experience.
• At least 6 months of recent experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment.
• Strong specimen processing and handling experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and patient care skills.
