Role: Microsoft Azure API Management Lead
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Duration: 3 months with potential for extension
 
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Azure API Management Lead to own the end-to-end delivery and operational support of enterprise APIs on Microsoft Azure. This role is responsible for architecture, development, security, deployment, monitoring, and production support for APIs and integration services built on Azure technologies.
The ideal candidate will lead migration initiatives from legacy integration platforms to Azure API Management (APIM), establish engineering best practices, and promote effective adoption of GenAI-assisted development tools across the team.
 
Key Responsibilities
API Architecture & Development

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise APIs and integration applications using Python and Azure integration services, including:
  • Azure API Management (APIM)
  • Azure Functions
  • Azure Service Bus
  • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Azure Key Vault
• Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performing API solutions.
• Ensure responsiveness, reliability, and maintainability of applications and services.

API Migration & Modernization

• Analyze project requirements and define detailed work items for API and integration modernization initiatives.
• Lead migration of existing APIs and integrations to Azure-based integration platforms and technology stacks.
• Apply refactoring and transformation patterns while validating functional parity.
• Coordinate migration cutovers to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
• Delegate tasks and provide technical leadership to junior team members and delivery resources.

Deployment, Support & Operations

• Test, deploy, and support fixes and enhancements across all environments.
• Troubleshoot production incidents and prioritize support activities to maintain optimal business performance.
• Lead root-cause analysis efforts and implement durable preventative solutions.
• Establish actionable observability and monitoring using Azure monitoring tools and external platforms such as Splunk.

Engineering Excellence & GenAI Enablement

• Champion engineering best practices including:
  • Automation
  • Testing
  • Documentation
  • Coding standards
  • CI/CD pipelines
• Mentor team members to improve code quality and maintainability.
• Promote effective and secure use of GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot by:
  • Crafting effective prompts
  • Validating AI-generated outputs
  • Sharing reusable patterns and workflows
• Encourage adoption of AI-assisted development practices to improve delivery speed and quality.
   

Required Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience required.

 
Experience

• 7–10 years of experience in an enterprise software development environment.
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with Azure integration and API management technologies.
• 6+ years of hands-on Python development experience.
   

Technical Skills
Azure Integration & API Management

• Deep understanding of integration architecture and design principles in complex enterprise environments.
• Expertise in API-led and event-driven integration patterns using Azure services.
• Strong experience with:
  • Azure API Management (APIM)
  • Azure Functions
  • Azure Service Bus
  • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Azure Key Vault

API Security & Governance

• Experience securing APIs using:
  • OAuth 2.0
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Mutual TLS (mTLS)
  • API governance and policy enforcement

DevOps & Infrastructure Automation

• Experience automating CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and related tooling.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as:
  • Terraform
  • OpenTofu
• Proficiency with Azure CLI and Azure Portal administration.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

• Strong troubleshooting and production support experience.
• Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using Azure Monitor and Splunk.

Containers & Development Tools

• Experience developing and deploying containerized Azure Functions and integration workloads.
• Proficiency using Visual Studio Code for Azure development.
• Experience deploying workloads to Kubernetes environments.

Data & Testing

• Expertise in designing complex data transformations and reusable transformation libraries.
• Experience with multi-level mappings and translation logic.
• Strong experience writing:
  • Unit tests
  • Integration tests
  • Functional tests
• Experience working with:
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Oracle DBaaS relational databases

GenAI Tools

• Experience using GenAI development assistants and agents such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate software delivery.
