Position Title: Medical Lab Scientist II
Location: 1670 St. Vincents Way, Middleburg, FL (Ascension)
Duration: 3+ months
Work Schedule: 3rd Shift (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM), 10-hour shifts, rotating weekends
Work Arrangement: Onsite
 
Position Summary
Responsibilities are interchangeable among Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist roles. The position involves evaluating specimen acceptability and performing routine to complex laboratory testing in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Background & Context

• Coverage for FMLA / short-staffed Core Lab at Ascension

Key Responsibilities

• Determine specimen acceptability based on established criteria
• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing as per SOPs
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation
• Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving
• Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents and quality controls
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and QC procedures
• Maintain adequate inventory of testing supplies
• Assist with specimen processing when required
• Follow safety protocols and use appropriate PPE
• Receive and process samples, run test kits, perform setups, and maintain documentation
• Perform generalist duties with focus on:
  • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Blood Bank

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field (as per CLIA/state requirements)
• 2–4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required
• State Medical Technologist license (if applicable)
• ASCP or AMT certification required
• Blood Bank experience is mandatory
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Proficiency with computers; experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus
• Strong communication skills
• Must pass a standardized color vision screening
• Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed

Additional Information

• Full-time: 40 hours/week (10-hour shifts)
• Ascension credentialing required (transcripts + resume)
