Job Title: CNC Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist
Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: Direct-Hire
 
Work Schedule – Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
Overtime: Availability for extended hours until 6:30 PM and half-day Saturdays (7:00 AM - 12:00 PM) based on production volume.
 
Job Summary:
Client is a premier job shop with nearly 50 years of expertise in large-scale component machining. We are seeking a skilled CNC Horizontal Machinist to join our Chicago team. This is a role for a craftsman who enjoys the variety of a job shop environment and has the technical proficiency to handle large parts for industries like steel mills, power generation, and automation.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Setup & Operation: Independently set up and operate 3-axis and 4-axis CNC horizontal machining centers for large component production.
• Programming: Utilize Mastercam to program parts and interpret G-code.
• Blueprint Proficiency: Read and interpret complex technical drawings and blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Quality Control: Perform precise measurements and quality checks using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Maintenance: Perform routine troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure machines operate at peak performance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Shop Manager to optimize machining processes and efficiency.

 
Required Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-5 years of proven experience as a CNC Machinist, specifically with horizontal machining centers.
• Specialization: Direct experience with large part machining is essential.
• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Mastercam and a solid understanding of manual machining principles.
• Precision: High attention to detail with the ability to work within tight tolerances.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification is a plus.
