Job Description
Position Title: Lab Assistant I
Work Location: 550 17th Ave, Ste 201, Seattle, WA
Assignment Duration: 3+ months
Work Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday
Position Summary:
The Lab Assistant I will work in a high-volume, production-based environment, performing essential functions that support clinical laboratory operations and contribute to accurate diagnostic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and sort clinical laboratory specimens
- Prepare specimens for testing and analysis
- Perform data entry and/or scanning of specimen and patient information
- Ensure proper functioning of lab equipment and perform minor maintenance
- Troubleshoot specimen-related issues
- Replenish laboratory supplies as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Complete record logs and administrative tasks as required
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safety and quality
- Handle pathology support tasks including:
- Filing slides
- Filing blocks
- Distributing pathology slides
Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience in a medical, laboratory, or production environment preferred
- Comfortable handling biological specimens
- Ability to accurately identify and process specimens
- Basic computer skills and data entry proficiency
- Strong attention to detail with multitasking ability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods
- Must pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed
- Knowledge of medical terminology and quality control is a plus
- Strong customer service skills
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Standing for the majority of the shift
- High-volume, production-based pathology support environment
- Color vision screening required
Additional Information:
- Full-time role (8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)
- Hepatitis B vaccination offered upon permanent conversion (optional based on titer/declination)
- Requires strong organizational skills and accuracy in handling slides and blocks
