Job Description

Position Title: Media Prep Lab Services Associate Technician
Work Location: South San Francisco, CA, 94080
Assignment Duration: 6 Months
Work Schedule: Flexible shifts Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, up to 30 hours per week, with potential for additional hours based on business needs.

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Technician to support our organization research laboratory operations. This role is critical in ensuring laboratory readiness by supporting labware processing, media preparation, and maintaining efficient workflows.

Key Responsibilities:
Lab Operations & Equipment
• Perform glassware washing, drying, and sterilization using autoclaves, ovens, and other lab equipment
• Inspect, sort, and prepare labware for reuse ensuring cleanliness and sterility standards are met
• Operate and maintain autoclaves, washers, and sterilization equipment; escalate malfunctions as needed
• Perform routine cleaning and organization of laboratory workspaces

Media Preparation & Reagents
• Prepare microbiological and cell culture media following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Accurately prepare buffers, reagents, and stock solutions
• Label, aliquot, and store materials according to defined protocols and storage conditions
• Monitor reagent inventory and expiration dates to ensure uninterrupted lab operations

Compliance & Documentation
• Follow all safety, GMP, and GLP guidelines where applicable
• Complete batch records, logs, and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards (ALCOA principles)
• Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, equipment usage, and inventory tracking
• Support audits and inspections by ensuring documentation is complete and compliant

Inventory & Logistics
• Maintain lab supply inventory levels and coordinate restocking activities
• Receive, unpack, and organize incoming materials and lab supplies
• Ensure proper storage conditions (temperature-controlled, hazardous materials handling, etc.)
• Support waste disposal processes including biohazard and chemical waste in accordance with safety guidelines

Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
• Assist in training new or junior technicians on lab processes and safety procedures
• Troubleshoot routine equipment or process issues and escalate when needed
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline workflows
• Support updates to SOPs and internal documentation

Collaboration
• Work closely with scientists, lab managers, and cross-functional teams to support research activities
• Communicate effectively regarding task prioritization, delays, or issues impacting lab operations
• Support multiple lab groups in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

Qualification & Experience:
Education: High school diploma or GED required; college-level coursework in biology, chemistry, or related field required (AA/AS preferred) Experience: 1+ year of laboratory experience in academic, biotech, or regulated environment preferred

Technical Skills:
• Experience with autoclaves, sterilization, and lab equipment
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and contamination control
• Familiarity with media preparation and buffer/reagent preparation • Basic computer skills (data entry, inventory systems, or lab tracking tools)

Working Conditions & Physical Demands (If Applicable):
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
• Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods
