Job Description
Position Title: Medical Lab Scientist II
Work Location: 4201 Belfort Road, Jacksonville, FL 32216
Assignment Duration: 6 Months
Work Schedule: 3x12 (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), Saturday–Monday (Weekend 3rd Shift)
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Position Summary
Responsibilities are interchangeable across Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist roles. The specific work environment/department will be defined in the requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine specimen acceptability based on established criteria
- Perform routine and complex testing procedures per SOPs
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
- Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving
- Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents and controls
- Report accurate and timely test results
- Perform preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Maintain and restock laboratory supplies
- Assist in specimen processing when required
- Ensure a safe work environment and follow PPE guidelines
- Work within the Blood Bank department (blood product assignment, emergency release, MTP)
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent
- 2–4 years of clinical lab experience (Blood Bank experience preferred)
- Florida State Medical Technologist license (required)
- ASCP or AMT certification (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Computer proficiency; Cerner LIS experience is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
- Flexibility to work overtime or different shifts as needed
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Fast-paced Blood Bank environment (peak hours: 6 PM – 10 PM)
- Weekend 3rd shift schedule
Additional Information
- Full-time: 36 hours/week (3x12 schedule)
- Required Vaccinations: Hep B, TB, MMR, T-DAP, Flu, Varicella
- Color vision screening: Not required
