Job Description:
- The client is seeking an Automation Contractor to support execution, stabilization, and enablement of laboratory automation workflows within the Predictive Safety Center (PSC), with a strong focus on Hamilton?based liquid handling systems supporting PSC workflows.
- This role is hands?on and execution?oriented, partnering closely with PSC laboratory users to develop and validate automated methods, and support day?to?day operations. The position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, validate, and maintain Hamilton automation protocols (primarily Venus?based, including Genera scheduling where applicable) to support PSC laboratory workflows.
- Develop and validate new automated methods for PSC laboratory workflows, including protocol design, method optimization, validation, and documentation aligned with PSC standards.
- Provide hands?on technical support to laboratory users, serving as a first?line automation expert for routine operation, issue resolution, and workflow adaptation - particularly for newly deployed Hamilton systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation issues across software, hardware, and integrated workcells, ensuring reliable execution, error recovery, and minimal downtime.
- Monitor system performance and uptime, proactively identifying failure modes, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improved robustness and throughput.
- Partner closely with PSC automation specialists and focal points to ensure smooth operation, change management, and continuous improvement of automated workflows.
- Identify and implement technologies and improvements to existing automation methods to increase efficiency, quality, reproducibility, and scalability.
- Support and contribute to protocol standardization, user guidance, and best practices for automation use within PSC.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in engineering or related field.
- 3+ years experience developing, validating, and supporting automated methods for lab workflows, including validation concepts and laboratory documentation.
- 3+ years hands?on experience with laboratory automation and Hamilton liquid handling platforms (Venus protocol development, debugging, execution).
- Advanced proficiency in Hamilton Venus (Level 2 or higher), with experience in Genera or similar scheduling tools.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues spanning software, hardware, and lab operations.
- Hands?on experience to operate and support integrated workcells, coordinating liquid handlers, robotic arms, and peripherals.
- Comfortable working directly with bench scientists and adapting workflows to real?world lab processes.
- Strong organizational skills, documentation rigor, and change management discipline.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating across multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication skills
