Senior Civil Designer
Duration: 6 month contract
Location: Kansas City, MO 64114

 
Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Civil Designer to lead and manage civil engineering design projects from concept through construction documentation. This role will oversee planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and environmental plan development. The Senior Civil Designer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams and lead a diverse portfolio of projects across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead civil design projects including site design, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, airports, and facility design.
  • Oversee drawing production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on complex assignments.
  • Utilize prescribed methods and standard techniques to complete assignments, including drawing sequences, sizing system components, and refining sketches.
  • Perform quality reviews of designs, sketches, and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Prepare and present reports, maps, drawings, tests, and topographical/geologic data for project planning.
  • Interpret and apply design codes and specifications relevant to assigned projects.
  • Lead design drawings ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Review volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site grading.
  • Integrate project schedules, budgets, and criteria into civil design layouts to achieve financial goals.
  • Organize and maintain all project drawings, plot files, and related documentation systematically.
  • Mentor, train, and develop junior staff members.
  • Participate in marketing and client development meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC standards for civil designs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
 
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting Technology or related field with 13 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Associate degree with 14 years of relevant experience, OR
  • 15 years of progressive detailing and design experience. Field experience is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel for design deliverables.
  • Advanced knowledge in civil design, calculations, and design systems.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering theory and practices, with competency in related disciplines as needed.
  • Ability to operate design software across related disciplines for project execution.
  • Professional Skills:
  • Collaborative approach to working with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and keen attention to detail.
