Job Description
Position Title: Biologist III (Purification Process Development-Biologics)
Length of Contract: One year
Location/Site: Worcester, MA, 01604
Remote, 100% Onsite, or Hybrid Onsite Schedule: 100% Onsite
This position is in the Biologics Purification Development team of the Product Development Science & Technology department at AbbVie Bioresearch Center. The candidate will be involved with all aspects of protein purification to support biopharmaceutical process development.
Key responsibilities:
Develop purification processes utilizing clarification, chromatography, and membrane filtration technologies for recombinant proteins
Design and execute innovative process development and characterization activities, including impurity and viral clearance studies
Responsible for technology transfer to scale-up labs and manufacturing facilities, as well as troubleshooting and investigation activities
Perform data acquisition, analysis, and documentation in electronic lab notebooks
Possess strong oral, written, and collaborative skills to effectively communicate experimental procedures and results
Provide technical support for pilot and/or GMP manufacturing of clinical materials as appropriate
Execute evaluations of new technologies and innovations for purification processes
What are the top 3-5 skills, experience or education required for this position:
(1) A sound scientific understanding of protein separation technologies and the ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance purification technologies are desirable.
(2) Experience in chromatography and membrane filtration for biologics purification is preferred.
(3) An MS or PhD degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or related disciplines is required.
(4) At least 5 years of experience (MS) or 0–2 years of experience (PhD) in protein purification process development and/or manufacturing support is required.
(5) Hands-on laboratory experience with AKTA FPLC, PendoTech filtration, and HPLC is a plus.
