Job Description

Position Title: Lab Scientist 1
Work Location: Atlanta, Georgia USA 30067
Assignment Duration: 12 Months
Position Summary: Perform a variety of testing procedures of moderate to high complexity. Evaluate validity of specimen results as per standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines.
Work schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform a variety of testing procedures of moderate to high complexity. Evaluate validity of specimen results as per standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines. Document all corrective actions taken.
• Provide oversight and guidance to Medical/Flow Laboratory Technicians and/or Assistants. Assist with training of new staff within the assigned group. Train staff Medical Technologists and Medical/Flow Laboratory Technicians and/or Assistants in proper laboratory techniques for existing and new methods. • Maintain quality control of laboratory testing to ensure accurate and timely lab reporting. Document corrective and preventative actions taken using good documentation practices.
• Assist management in establishing new methodologies. Assist in completion of validation packages.
• Assist management with implementing SOPs for laboratory testing and safety procedures. Implement changes in laboratory notifying all employees of necessary changes. Notify management when updates to department SOP manuals are needed to reflect procedural changes.
• Follow safety procedures as per laboratory SOPs.
• Collaborate with Project Manager with client requests and concerns. Notify management of any delays in testing and any related factors.
• Identify appropriate vendors and orders laboratory supplies as directed by management in order to maintain consistent workflow.
• Participate in continuing education through self-study, attending off-site lectures and preparing programs to share with coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform flow cytometry-based laboratory testing
  • Work on different assay types with varying complexity
    • Low complexity (e.g., Surface Marker assays ~2 hours)
    • High complexity (e.g., FoxP3 assays ~6–7 hours)
  • Handle sample preparation and antibody setup
  • Operate and manage flow cytometry instruments
  • Perform 4–5 assays per day (once fully trained)
  • Follow lab SOPs and protocols  
  • Participate in training and skill development
  • Maintain accuracy in data entry and assay setup
  • Work in a high-complexity lab environment

Must-Have Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on lab experience
  • Flow Cytometry experience (highly preferred)
  • Experience working in moderate to high complexity labs
  • Strong hands-on lab skills
  • Knowledge of assay setup and antibody handling
  • Familiarity with flow cytometry instruments
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology concepts
  • Ability to work independently after training

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with- BD FACSCanto, Cytek Aurora and Luminex or similar flow cytometry platforms
  • Background in Molecular Biology
  • Experience with high-complexity assays
  • Familiarity with multiple lab systems (non-integrated environments)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (mandatory)  
  • Master’s degree is acceptable but not preferred over experience

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of lab experience (mandatory). Must be hands-on experience
  • Preferred background- Flow Cytometry (ideal) and Molecular Biology (secondary preference)
  • Freshers not suitable (takes 1 year to train, not feasible for this role)
