Job Description
Position Title: Phlebotomist II
Work Location: Algonquin, IL 60102
Assignment Duration: 3-Month
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Rotating Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Training: Could be at Arlington Heighs or Elgin PSC
Position Summary:
The primary function of a Phlebotomist is to perform assigned duties including blood collection, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

- Go-live scheduled for early February
- In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) clinic offering multiple services
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and maintain records
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Clearly explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients
- Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles
- Understand and follow physician orders accurately
- Match lab requisitions with specimen tubes
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
- Ensure 100% accuracy in test requisitions and labels
- Package and transport specimens appropriately
- Maintain specimen integrity per temperature and protocol requirements
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual department training
- Answer calls and communicate lab results as needed
- Perform specimen collection, processing, data entry, and occasional specimen transport
- Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by the state)
- Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2–4 years of overall experience preferred
- Phlebotomy (all patient types)
- Experience with hard sticks and needle handling
- Familiarity with urine and thyroid testing
- Strong attention to detail
- Data entry and processing skills
- Good computer proficiency
- Majority of shift spent standing
- Medium-sized IOP clinic
- Work alongside one other employee or independently at times
- First two weeks of training/orientation (location may vary: worksite, Arlington Heights, or Elgin PSC)
- Rotating Saturday shifts
- Full-time: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day)
- Daily draws: approximately 25–30 (new account)
- Patient population: adults and geriatrics (no pediatrics)
- Vaccination Requirements:
- TB
- Hep B (can be declined)
- Color vision required
- Strong multitasking, critical thinking, and customer service skills required
- Clinic serves a diverse patient base, including many immigration families
