Job Description

Position Title: Medical Lab Scientist I (Operations Scientist I)

Location: Chantilly, VA (3635 Concord Pkwy, Suite 100, 20151)
Duration: 6+ Months
Schedule: Monday – Friday | Core Hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
(Flexible start time; must complete 8.5 hours/day)
Work Setting: Onsite


Position Summary

The Medical Lab Scientist I is responsible for independently performing routine sample analysis while ensuring compliance with established methods, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines. This role supports laboratory operations, data integrity, and project execution in a production lab environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine biological and chemical sample analysis independently

  • Follow all methods, protocols, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines

  • Document laboratory work and maintain accurate records per compliance standards

  • Conduct QC review of data and ensure data integrity

  • Operate laboratory equipment (balances, pipettes, centrifuges, etc.) including setup and maintenance

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues

  • Communicate deviations or issues impacting data quality to leadership

  • Participate in project planning, monitoring, and execution

  • Manage multiple assignments and prioritize workload effectively

  • Support process improvement initiatives

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant lab environment

  • Assist in training junior staff as needed

  • Participate in client visits when required


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Biology, Chemistry, or related field

  • 2–4 years of relevant laboratory experience (preferred)

  • Familiarity with standard lab equipment (pipettes, centrifuges, balances)

  • Experience with analytical instrumentation and LIMS is a plus

  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel)

  • Strong communication and organizational skills


Preferred / Additional Considerations

  • Recent graduates with a science degree may be considered

  • Ability to troubleshoot and work independently in a fast-paced lab

  • Maintain cleanliness and compliance within the lab
