Position Title: Phlebotomist II
Location: The Woodlands, TX (9319 Pinecroft Drive)
Duration: 3-Month
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Work Setting: Onsite
Position Summary
The Phlebotomist II will be responsible for performing blood collection procedures and supporting daily lab operations. This role includes specimen handling, patient interaction, troubleshooting, and contributing to workflow improvements in a fast-paced oncology clinic environment.
Background / Context
This position provides coverage for an FMLA leave at an oncology clinic (recently acquired site). There is potential for conversion, possibly at a different location.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles
- Collect, label, centrifuge, process, and store specimens per protocol
- Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling
- Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes and verify test orders
- Package and prepare specimens for transport while maintaining integrity
- Explain procedures clearly and professionally to patients
- Maintain records, update patient information, and ensure data accuracy
- Follow all OSHA and DEP regulations for safety and compliance
- Perform decontamination and equipment maintenance tasks
- Handle patient inquiries and communicate lab-related information
- Participate in training and support process improvements
Qualifications & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2–4 years of phlebotomy experience
- Minimum 6 months of recent venipuncture experience in a hospital or lab setting
- Experience with adult patients (ages 40–70)
- Strong experience with hard sticks, butterfly needles, and straight needles
- Valid state Phlebotomy certification (if required)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology clinic experience preferred
- Hospital or inpatient experience is a strong plus
- Experience beyond plasma-only environments
Working Conditions
- Majority of shift spent standing (1-hour lunch break)
- Medium-sized oncology clinic setting
- Work independently alongside one additional phlebotomist
- Initial 1-week orientation + 3 days training in Willowbrook, TX
Additional Information
- Full-time: 40 hours/week
- Daily volume: 20–30 draws (adult patients)
- Required: TB test & Hepatitis B vaccination (declination allowed)
- Must pass color vision screening
