Job Description

Summary:
The Phlebotomist II is responsible for performing a variety of assigned duties including blood collection, specimen handling, troubleshooting, training support, and workflow improvement recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform venipuncture using straight needles and/or butterfly needles

• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required

• Ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes

• Collect and store specimens following established procedures

• Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling and temperature control

• Explain collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients

• Update and maintain patient information accurately

• Package specimens for transport

• Perform equipment maintenance, decontamination, and record data

• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations

• Participate in training and departmental activities

• Handle incoming calls and respond to inquiries, including reporting lab results

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state)

• Minimum 6 months of experience in venipuncture (lab or hospital setting)

• 2–4 years of overall relevant experience preferred

• High School Diploma or GED

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
