Job Description
Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Duration: 3 Months
Location: 1560 Capital Circle NW, Tallahassee, FL 32301
Shift: 1st/ 7am-2:00pm M-F
Vaccines required: TB, color vision is required.
Summary
The primary function of the Phlebotomist is to perform blood draws and assist with various assigned duties in a clinical or laboratory setting. This includes troubleshooting issues, training team members when needed, and providing workflow recommendations to improve efficiency. The role focuses on accurate specimen collection, processing, and handling while ensuring patient comfort, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venipunctures (using straight needles and/or butterfly needles) and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal samples) as required.
Properly explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process to patients in a clear, courteous manner to ensure understanding and comfort.
Collect, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to established procedures and test orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; verify all test requisitions or computer labels against physician orders/scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Record maintenance data, perform decontamination, and update patient information as needed.
Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature protocols, using appropriate collection containers/tubes while following specific transport procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA, DEP, and other relevant regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Assist in troubleshooting, training staff, and making recommendations to optimize workflow.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in applicable states).
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
High School Diploma or GED.
3+ yrs of exp
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
Position is offered by a no fee agency.
