Mechanical Technician III – Concept Assembly
Location: Sunnyvale, CA (100% Onsite)
Duration: 6 Months Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Technician III to support prototype development and concept assembly within the hardware engineering organization. This role will focus on precision assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype electronic devices such as laptops, mobile devices, and VR hardware. The technician will collaborate closely with design engineers and cross-functional teams to assemble, validate, and improve prototype builds while ensuring adherence to established procedures.
This is a hands-on lab environment role requiring strong mechanical and electronic assembly skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Perform precision prototype assembly of mechanical and electronic components following defined SOPs.

Conduct electrical assembly and testing using specialized diagnostic equipment.

Execute mechanical assembly testing using calibrated measurement tools.

Calibrate, test, and flash prototype electronic devices.

Collaborate with design engineers to troubleshoot issues, gather feedback, and improve build processes.

Assist the broader Concept Engineering team with prototype assembly and development tasks.

Perform post-mortem analysis after project completion and implement lessons learned for future builds.

Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and provide guidance to other technicians.

Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing project priorities.

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and build quality.
Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering OR 3+ years of experience in electronic device assembly (laptops, phones, VR devices, etc.).

Hands-on experience with small electronics troubleshooting and assembly.

Experience with electronic testing tools and software-based testing.

Familiarity with Linux, Windows, and MacOS environments.

Exposure to Python scripting or testing scripts (Python/C++).

Experience working with CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks.

Knowledge of 3D printing technologies and rapid prototyping tools.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with ADB (Android Debug Bridge) and Python scripting for debugging.

Background in consumer electronics assembly environments.

Experience with prototyping and fixture design.

Knowledge of 3-axis glue machine programming.

Familiarity with PCB layouts, schematics, and soldering.
