Summary:
  • The Lead Electrical Designer is responsible for leading the electrical design efforts on large and complex EPC projects.
  • This role will lead a team of designers, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, while adhering to all company, client, and project standards.
  • The Lead Electrical Designer will proactively identify and resolve design challenges to optimize constructability and minimize rework.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, design, and production of electrical design documents, including schematics, grid plans, power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site/facility design.
  • Responsible for discerning optimal layouts and designs for best constructability, even with incomplete engineering information.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of electrical designers, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring quality control.
  • Collaborate effectively with lead designers from other disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil) to ensure seamless integration of design elements.
  • Responsible for project schedules and budgets, proactively communicating change events, and identifying and resolving potential design conflicts.
  • Analyze incomplete or ambiguous electrical engineering information, leveraging experience to develop complete and accurate designs, minimizing rework.
  • Evaluate designs, redlines, and markups on ongoing projects to ensure quality and adherence to standards. Approve reports, drawings, and tests.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and specifications.
  • Perform complex calculations, sizing of system components, and refinement of rough sketches.
  • Compute volume calculations for conduit and grounding layouts and equipment.
  • Contribute to the preparation of design documents for proposals.
  • Prepare reports and communicate effectively with project teams and clients.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in drafting or related field and 13 years related experience required or associate degree and 14 years related experience required or 15 years progressive detailing and design experience required.
