Job Title: Travel Pathology Assistant
Duration: 6+ monthsLocation: Boston, MA – Tufts Medical Center (800 Washington Street)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Work Setting: Hospital
Required Vaccinations: TB, MMR
Position Summary
The Pathology Assistant V is responsible for performing comprehensive gross examination, dissection, and tissue submission for microscopic evaluation in accordance with departmental and laboratory standards. This role supports accurate diagnostic pathology while maintaining compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Perform complete dissection, gross description, tissue selection, and submission for microscopic examination and special studies per departmental guidelines.

Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.

Adhere to laboratory quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) policies and procedures.

Assist with rotational assignments within the department as required after completion of primary duties.

Maintain a professional and compliant laboratory environment at all times.

Identify issues that may impact test performance or result reporting and take appropriate corrective or escalation actions.

Demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct and integrity in all assigned duties.

Apply knowledge of hazardous waste management, bloodborne pathogens, and personal protective measures.

Perform or assist with frozen section cutting (experience preferred).
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.

ASCP certification is highly preferred.

Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant program (no prior experience required with program completion).

Experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment is preferred.

Proficiency with computers; familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus.

Strong understanding of QC/QA processes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.

Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.

Must pass a standardized color vision screening.

Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
