Job Description:
- The Data Validation Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of supplier carbon emissions data allocated to AWS and Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) procurement. This position serves as a bridge between sustainability goals and supplier reporting, establishing robust data collection frameworks and validation processes that support our climate commitments.
- This role requires deep expertise in corporate greenhouse gas emissions reporting, life-cycle analysis, sustainability metrics, and internal controls over sustainability data.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection & Supplier Engagement
- Collect and validate allocated emissions data from suppliers across AWS's supply chain
- Design and deliver comprehensive communications packages that guide suppliers through data submission requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with supplier sustainability teams to ensure timely, accurate data delivery
Technical Expertise & Guidance:
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on sustainability technical accounting topics, GHG quantification methodologies, and internal controls over sustainability reporting
- Develop training materials and guidance documentation to build capability across relevant teams and leadership
- Provide technical consultation on complex carbon accounting scenarios, including Scope 3 allocation methodologies
Process Design & Controls:
- Design and oversee the implementation of robust data collection processes, internal controls, and validation procedures to ensure data integrity and reliability
- Partner with technology teams to identify automation opportunities and design scalable tech solutions for data collection and validation
- Establish quality assurance checkpoints that align with third-party assurance requirements
Documentation & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of sustainability accounting methodologies, data sources, calculation approaches, and internal controls
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that support audit readiness and process consistency
- Ensure documentation meets the requirements of relevant frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, ESRS) and assurance standards
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience in corporate sustainability, carbon accounting, life-cycle assessment (LCA), and/or sustainability third-party assurance
- Demonstrated expertise in GHG emissions quantification methodologies and reporting standards, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven ability to work with complex, multi-source datasets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Hands-on experience conducting or supporting assurance engagements or internal audits over sustainability metrics
- Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of sustainability accounting and disclosure frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, ESRS, GHG Protocol) with demonstrated expertise in applying them to real-world reporting scenarios
- Experience with supplier engagement programs and supply chain emissions data collection
- Proficiency in data management tools and platforms; experience with SQL, Python, or similar analytical tools is a plus
- Track record of developing scalable processes and internal controls that support data quality and audit readiness
- Strong stakeholder management skills with experience presenting to senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Professional certifications such as GHG Inventory Quantifier, Sustainability Assurance Practitioner, or similar credentials
