The Puget Sound NDE and Measurement Systems is an Engineering Team responsible for supporting design, development, production programs, and In-Service. The team provides certification and qualification services across the value stream for NDE and Measurement. The team works on commercial and defense aircraft. The team also conducts research and development with internal stakeholders and external customers. This team spans the entire product life cycle from research and development to active airframe support.
This team supports diverse non-destructive evaluation and measurement technology applications for commercial and defense products produced or supported by the company. There is an opportunity to experience different business unit needs and support a diverse selection of commercial and defense aircraft in different phases of their production lifecycle. By working on this team, an individual is able to impact programs across the enterprise and have an opportunity to grow a broad network across all of Boeing.
The successful candidate will have a strong desire to work with technical and non-technical audiences and be a self-starter. There must be a desire to do non-destructive evaluation work and have a general base of NDE knowledge and/or experience. In addition, an understanding of basic analysis techniques to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts, or processes will be required. Experience in writing non-destructive inspection procedures for commercial and commercial-derivative aircraft is strongly valued.
Position Responsibilities:
• Develops NDE procedures in support of airline customer maintenance inspections.
• Designs NDE reference standards in support of inspection procedures.
• Develops engineering specifications and other documents to meet customer needs.
• Assists in the evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs.
• Assists with the development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes to meet requirements.
• Performs routine tests and audits to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
• Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
• Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEA,N and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design, and qualification, (3) work procedures, and (4) labs and office areas.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
• 1+ years of engineering experience.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with CAD systems such as CATIA and Solidworks.
• Experience with NDI systems: ultrasonics, eddy current.
• Experience in aviation and/or aerospace.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent skills with various computing systems.
• Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
• Excellent time management skills to manage several simultaneous projects effectively and across various geographical locations.
• Knowledge of materials science with metals and/or composites.
