Job Title: Director of Logistics
Location: Roswell, GA (5 days onsite + travel)


Overview
The Director of Logistics provides strategic and operational leadership across fleet, transportation, and delivery operations. This role oversees tanker fleet and delivery assets while driving safety, compliance, cost control, and operational performance. This leader will balance hands-on operational execution with evolving strategic responsibilities, including fleet vs. outsourced carrier strategy, asset lifecycle planning, and logistics cost optimization aligned to procurement and business growth. The organization is scaling through acquisition and organic growth, requiring a leader who can maintain strong driver culture and operational credibility while building more advanced logistics strategy and cross-functional business partnership.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Alignment
  • Lead logistics and fleet operations strategy across tanker and delivery fleet.
  • Drive P&L performance through cost optimization, asset utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with executive leadership, finance, procurement, and operations to align logistics strategy with business growth.
  • Support long-term fleet planning, including acquisition, replacement, and outsourcing strategy.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for fleet performance, delivery reliability, safety, and cost metrics.
Fleet & Asset Management
  • Oversee lifecycle management of tankers, tractors, trailers, and service vehicles.
  • Support CAPEX planning, asset replacement timing, and utilization optimization.
  • Negotiate with vendors, leasing partners, and service providers.
  • Partner with future asset management resources and finance on depreciation and lifecycle planning.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and internal safety policies.
  • Oversee driver qualification, safety training, and regulatory documentation.
  • Support audits, inspections, incident investigations, and insurance coordination.
  • Monitor regulatory changes impacting logistics operations.
Operational Leadership & Culture
  • Lead a logistics organization of approximately 50–60 employees.
  • Oversee dispatch operations and driver performance management.
  • Improve driver engagement, retention, and culture while maintaining operational accountability.
  • Maintain strong field presence and operational credibility with drivers and dispatch teams.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Improve routing efficiency, delivery performance, and cost structure.
  • Partner with IT and Finance to enhance ERP, telematics, and reporting capabilities.
  • Support driver recruiting, onboarding, and retention strategies.
  • Standardize fleet and logistics processes across business units.
Hard Requirements
  • 10+ years logistics, transportation, or fleet leadership experience.
  • 5+ years leading teams in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Experience managing fleet operations (tanker, bulk liquid, chemical, fuel, or similar preferred).
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership or strong cost accountability.
  • Strong DOT and transportation compliance knowledge.
  • Experience managing driver workforce and dispatch operations.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a growing organization.

Bonus / Preferred Qualifications
  • Tanker, hazmat, chemical, fuel, or bulk liquid delivery experience.
  • Experience with fleet vs outsourced carrier decision strategy.
  • Experience building or redesigning driver compensation or incentive structures.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions or rapid fleet scaling.
  • Experience working closely with procurement, supply chain, or inventory strategy.
  • Experience with ERP, telematics, and fleet systems (NetSuite, Fleetio, Motive or similar).
  • Exposure to asset lifecycle modeling, lease vs buy strategy, or CAPEX planning.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field required. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
