Job Description

Job Title: Senior Instructional Designer (Contract)
Duration: 12 Months (Possible Extension)
Location: Must reside within CLIENT service territory : Livermore, CA
Travel: Quarterly travel required; occasional overnight stays

 
About the Role
Client Academy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Instructional Designer (SID) to design and develop technical training programs supporting workforce development and operational compliance. The role partners with stakeholders, SMEs, and learning teams to create effective, role-based training aligned with Client's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Training Design & Development
  • Engage stakeholders to identify skill gaps, learner pain points, and role-based training needs.
  • Conduct needs assessments and front-end analyses (FEA).
  • Apply adult learning theory, ADDIE model, and Bloom’s Taxonomy.
  • Design clear, engaging technical skill-building courses.
  • Review off-the-shelf courses for technician curriculum inclusion.
  • Develop curriculum maps and assessment strategies.
  • Create and manage learning content within CMS/LMS platforms.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with SMEs, Senior Learning Strategists, and Instructional Designers.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project meetings: Kickoffs, Betas, Pilots, and Train-the-Trainer sessions.
  • Provide stakeholder updates and recommendations.
Project & Program Management
  • Estimate project timelines and costs.
  • Manage deliverables on schedule and within budget.
  • Track progress and provide reporting updates.
  • Perform quality assurance (QA) reviews.
  • Archive materials and complete project close-out.
Continuous Improvement
  • Collect and analyze training effectiveness metrics.
  • Recommend improvements and learning solutions.
  • Guide adoption of learning technologies and tools.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years instructional design experience
  • 2+ years mentoring or leadership experience
  • Experience designing technical or trades training programs
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience with:
    • ADDIE model
    • Needs assessment/FEA
    • Assessment development
    • Classroom and technical training environments
  • Proficiency in:
    • MS Office
    • Articulate Storyline
    • Learning Management Systems (LMS)
    • Video production and web design tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Apprenticeship or skilled trades training development
  • Utility industry experience
  • Master’s degree (Instructional Design or Education)
  • Familiarity with:
    • Questionmark
    • Author-It
    • MS Teams
    • Virtual learning platforms
    • AI-supported learning tools
  • Previous Client experience (plus)
