Position Title: Lab Technician II
Work Location: Hazelwood, MO
Assignment Duration: 1.6 Months
Work Schedule: M-F, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Position Summary:
Lab Support Temp will contribute to the department’s ability to gain product knowledge on new or redeveloped tests and products. Support existing products through testing and investigation in a timely manner. Assist with projects by performing routine tasks and may be a part of more complex investigation within Industrialization in full compliance with current quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Handling of microbiological cultures, including bacteria and yeasts, using appropriate safety precautions
· Identify mixed cultures and escalate to appropriate personnel
· Fill culturing requests from Industrialization
· Help with prep work/support to various projects with ongoing activities in the lab (e.g., open card pouches, label cards for setups)
· Perform microbial testing using the VITEK 2 instrument in a timely manner
· Generate and review VITEK 2 data
· Communicate results or problems to supervisor or senior staff members
· Monitor instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
· Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs
· Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts
· Coordinate work assignments and be able to prioritize independently
· Participate in a team approach to maintenance of the lab
· Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
· Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Qualification & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in life sciences/ Biology/ Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry or related field. Minimum time and type experience required for this position. At least 2 years:
· Understanding of aseptic technique is required.
· Experience with good laboratory practice, laboratory safety and standard laboratory equipment is desired. · Experience working with microorganisms is desired.
· Ability to acquire, learn and perform new laboratory techniques.
· Analytical thinking
· Collaborative attitude for department and inter-departmental activities
· Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
· Good written and oral communication in English.
· Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
· Good organizational skills.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands (If Applicable): Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
