Job Description

Job Title: Instructional Designer Lead
Location: 100% Remote
Duration: 10 Months

Shift: 8AM-5 PM EST, M-F
 
We are seeking contractors with hands-on experience in Planview and  Clipchamp AI to support the development and refinement of program-related training and communication materials. 

Position Summary:
  • The Instructional Designer Lead participates in multiple high complexity design and development training projects from initiation to closure. This is accomplished by following defined instructional design standards and using aligned industry tools to design, develop, and measure training courses to support learning initiatives.
  • The Instructional Designer Lead will be converting courses from Lectora and Articulate.
  • These are both popular e-learning tools used to create interactive online courses.
 
Top must-have skills / Candidate Requirements:
  • Background in learning and instructional design.
  • Proficiency in Lectora (Intermediate to Advanced level).
  • Expertise in Articulate (Advanced level).
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the ADDIE Model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation).
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Highly adaptable to change.
 
What will separate an average candidate vs a great candidate on a resume?
  • Advanced skillset with software.
 
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher and a minimum of 3 years instructional design/development, teaching/training delivery, web design experience or responsibilities that involve performance improvement initiative - {OR}
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent or higher and a minimum of 6 years instructional design/development, teaching/training delivery, web design experience or responsibilities that involve performance improvement initiatives.
 
Main day to day responsibilities:
  • Design course material for online learning
  • Performs a variety of analysis activities including task & audience analyses, usability sessions, and performance/skill gap research.
  • Designs and develops course materials for online learning, instructor-led (virtual, in-person and hybrid), performance support and media-based solutions.
  • Parses complex content and concepts into easier to understand sections.
  • Distributes draft course materials and solicits feedback, revises materials accordingly.
  • May be a need for some analysis as it relates to usability or old or missing content.

The worker's main interaction will be with:
  • Learning and development team within organization.
  • Other learning professionals within the company.
 
Will the contractor be working independently or will they be collaborating with team members and/or a manager to complete tasks?
  • Should be mostly independent work.
 
Split of time on converting vs net new trainings?
  • 80% converting courses from Lectora to Articulate.
  • 20% assisting with development of new courses.
 
How will performance be measured:
  • Observation.
  • Review of developed materials.
 
Interview Process:
1 round of video interview.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of analysis activities including task & audience analyses, usability sessions, and performance/skill gap research.
  • Creates and evaluates learning measurement strategies applicable to course design to assess course effectiveness.
  • Develops and observes instructor led courses, train-the-trainer programs, and pilot classes to makes recommendations for improvement and provide feedback to trainers.
  • Mentors, coaches, and helps develop other instructional designers.
  • Serves as departmental representative for enterprise-wide instructional design initiatives.
  • Develops design documents, project timelines and action/communication and evaluation plans.
  • Defines course objectives or goals, designs appropriate classroom or online learning solutions (formal or informal etc.) and identifies the best delivery method for the defined learning need.
  • Designs and develops course materials for online learning, instructor-led (virtual, in-person and hybrid), performance support and media-based solutions.
  • Parses complex content and concepts into easier to understand sections.
  • Distributes draft course materials and solicits feedback, revises materials accordingly.
  • Researches, tests, and implements technology for new learning solutions.
  • Assists in the development of a long-term maintenance strategy to handle the changing nature of the course materials over time.
  • Identifies and maintains best practices, and departmental procedures for content implementation.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Able to work assigned schedule subject to flexible schedule policies and practices.
  • Able to work variable and flexible hours, such as nights, weekends, and holidays in response to business needs.
 
Knowledge, Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient in multiple delivery methods and instructional design techniques.
  • Ability to define learning needs and develop courses that can be linked to business results.
  • Ability to communicate, influence, negotiate and consult with stakeholders.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Mastery of PC skills and extensive knowledge of tools used by the training department, including Microsoft Office 365 and industry standard authoring tools.
  • Ability to organize time while managing multiple high complexity projects.
  • Ability to adapt to changes.
  • Ability to coach and develop others.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal to no supervision.
 
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Requires the use of typical office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, etc.) whether working from home or in office. Computer keyboarding, computer monitor and mouse use including reaching forward, grasping, finger and wrist manipulation, and neck bending and turning; near vision is necessary for computer monitor use. If working in-office, individual will work in a typical office environment.
  • If working in an Emerging Workspace, or similar working arrangement, or working from more than one location lifting of laptop equipment, files and/or personal belongings weighing 10 lbs. or less is required.
  • High-speed internet access is required if working from a home office, at the employee's expense unless otherwise required by law.
  • May require long periods of sitting.
  • May require prolonged repetitive use of the upper extremities.
