Position Title: Histology Associate
Work Location: Tucson, AZ ,85755
Duration: 12 months
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Position Summary:
Supports the functions of RTD histology laboratories in the performance of routine histotechniques.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination
• Operate and maintain histology laboratory equipment
• Ensure quality control and compliance with laboratory standards
• Assist pathologists with specimen analysis
• Follow safety protocols and regulatory guidelines
Histotechniques (Tissue Sectioning and Staining):
• Some experience with foundational histotechniques of embedding, microtomy, coverslipping, processing and primary staining
• Experience with operating laboratory or manufacturing equipment
• Receives detailed directions on all work and follows standard operating procedures
• Monitors and prepares bulk reagents
• May assist in preparation work for moderately complex techniques under the direction of more senior histology technicians
Quality and Safety:
• Maintain Right to Operate and ensure all processes are performed safely
• Address and escalate unsafe hazards and incidents
• Navigate and understand the quality system and escalate issues
• Accurately perform tasks in a regulated environment (OSHA, NMPA, FDA, etc.)
• Perform and document transactions related to receipt, quarantine, storage, and disbursement of materials
• Recognize minor issues with raw materials, equipment, and lab safety and escalate as needed
• Adhere to 95% or above internal training compliance
Continuous Improvement:
• Responsible for 6S activities and maintaining daily records
• Assist in implementation of process improvements
• Participate in team and tier meetings
Teamwork and Collaboration:
• Collaborate with peers and other functions to achieve targets
• Provide suggestions to improve work processes and laboratory equipment
Qualifications & Experience:
• Required H.S. Diploma or GED plus 1 year of directly related histology experience
• Ability to read, analyze, and follow operating procedures
• Knowledge of basic manufacturing and laboratory techniques
• Skilled use of word processing and email
• Demonstrated experience with Lean / Continuous Improvement
• Experience with Google products preferred
• Experience with SAP required
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams
• Ability to be agile and accurate in a high-volume environment
• Strong organizational, planning, and attention to detail skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to use precision tools
• Prompt, regular, and reliable worksite attendance
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
• Stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend, crouch for a combined 4+ hours per day
• Push, pull, and lift a minimum of 25 pounds
• Perform repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and fingers
• Good near visual acuity required
• Essential position requiring attendance on weekends, holidays, and during emergency or exceptional conditions
Preferred (Optional):
• Certification in histotechnology preferred
