Summary
The Mechanical Test Engineer will join a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on advancing next-generation wearable and consumer electronic devices. This role is responsible for defining, developing, and executing mechanical verification strategies, including novel test methods and scalable test infrastructure, to support research and new product development. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on testing experience, fixture and test system design capability, and the ability to collaborate closely with hardware, research, and cross-functional engineering teams to drive hardware maturity and reliability.
Key Responsibilities

Define, implement, and execute mechanical verification methodologies for systems and new product designs.

Develop scalable test infrastructure, including the design and fabrication of custom mechanical test fixtures.

Architect, document, and drive adoption of novel testing protocols for research hardware and consumer electronics.

Perform verification testing across thermal, vibration, mechanical stress, optics, and related domains.

Support system bring-up and debug activities; clearly communicate test plans, results, and risks.

Collaborate with research scientists, mechanical, electrical, and partner engineering teams to define test requirements and success metrics.

Track test coverage, document results, manage defects, and report findings to stakeholders.

Conduct statistical analysis and post-processing of test data to support data-driven decisions.
Required Skills

5+ years of experience in mechanical qualification and verification of small form-factor, electromechanical consumer devices.

Demonstrated experience developing and implementing novel mechanical testing methods.

Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, NX) for fixture and system design.

Hands-on experience designing, fabricating, and validating custom test fixtures.

Experience creating detailed test procedures, processes, and documentation.

Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for test automation and data analysis.

Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to drive testing requirements and hardware readiness.
Preferred Skills

Experience with system- and subsystem-level mechanical verification.

Familiarity with instrumentation and motion control systems (motors, drivers, encoders, sensors).

Knowledge of mechanical fabrication processes and electromechanical assembly.

Experience with commercial test systems (e.g., Instron).

Background in statistical data analysis, measurement system analysis, and test automation.

Understanding of kinematics and human body movement.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field required.
