Summary:
The main function of a chemical technician is to conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials. A typical chemical technician is either a research technician that works in an experimental lab or a process control technician who works in a manufacturing setting. The research technician works on research and development and collects samples or produces compounds. The process control technician focuses on quality assurance and production processes.

Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with scientists to support research projects related to the mining industry, including mineral scale control and mineral flotation
- Perform mineral precipitation tests by calculating and preparing dilutions, setting up and running reactions, and analyzing solutions using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA)
- Prepare and analyze mineral samples by grinding ore, pressing pellets, performing gravimetric analysis, and running x-ray fluorescence (XRF)
- Communicate clearly with scientists to understand tasks for different projects, explain results, and plan work schedule
- Carefully follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for moderately complex but routine tasks and instrumentation
- Make observations while conducting lab work and report potential issues to scientists in a timely manner
- Prioritize safety by understanding lab protocols and proper waste disposal procedures
- Maintain clean and organized lab spaces and equipment, and restock supplies as needed
Use Excel to tablue, organize and plot data, and send reports to Scientists
Must Haves:
- At least one year of experience working in chemistry or microbiology lab
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage their own experiment schedule
- Detail-oriented with strong observation skills
- Eagerness to learn new skills and flexibility to accomodate a dynamic lab environment
- Capable of multitasking and supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience on one or more of the following analytical instruments or spectroscopy: XRF, XRD, IC, AA, IR/FTIR, UV / Vis, turbidity, colorimitry, HPLC, GC, MS, NMR
- Experience performing one or more of the following wet chemical methods: titrations, acid digestions, gravimetry, chromatography or electrochemistry
