This position provides an opportunity to support the execution of projects, change management activities, and various EHSS programs at Thousand Oaks and other locations.
The successful candidate will coordinate and advance existing EHSS programs and initiatives while driving a culture of safety excellence.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, creative, and professional individual with a proven ability to integrate safety and health requirements into business operations and collaborate closely with engineers, process specialists, and process leaders.

Work Arrangement
- Fully Onsite
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Preferred Certifications & Background
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) – Preferred
- Engineering background with PE Certification – Preferred

Key Responsibilities
- Review new or proposed changes to processes, equipment, materials, or operations to ensure all EHSS requirements are addressed.
- Act as the primary EHSS representative for assigned projects, providing EHS Safety Engineering reviews during Concept, Basis of Design, Detailed Design, and other project stages.
- Conduct regular assessments of process safety procedures, industrial safety practices, equipment, and operator training.
- Review and provide EHS input on project documentation including process diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and design drawings.
- Serve as SME and/or lead complex or high-hazard risk assessments using methodologies such as What-If, HAZOP, and FMEA.
- Drive continuous improvement through proactive process enhancements and site support.
- Implement and support technical safety programs as assigned.
- Maintain working knowledge of EHSS programs including Machine Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Process Safety Management, and Pressure Safety.
- Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or other life science disciplines.
- Strong understanding of design and project engineering and risk assessment processes.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotech regulations.
- Applied knowledge of EHS and process safety practices, engineering principles, and regulatory standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organization and quality focus.
- Demonstrated EHSS leadership in manufacturing or laboratory environments.
- 5–7 years of experience implementing industrial and safety programs in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
- CIH and/or CSP certification.
- Strong communication, technical writing, presentation, and stakeholder-influencing skills.
- Proficiency in learning and using software systems supporting Amgen project execution.
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate or Master’s degree with 2 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of experience
- Associate’s degree with 8 years of experience
- High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of experience
- Degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, chemistry, biology, or related life science field.
- Strong understanding of design, project engineering, and risk assessment processes.
- Knowledge of pharma/biotech regulations and EHS/process safety practices.
- Act as the primary EHSS representative for assigned projects.
- Perform formal EHS Safety Engineering reviews across project phases.
- Conduct assessments of safety procedures, equipment, and training.
- Review project documents and provide EHS guidance.
- Lead or support high-hazard risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA, What-If).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and site safety enhancements.
- Support and implement technical safety programs as required.
