Job Title: Hardware Engineer I
Duration: 3 Months (Potential to Extend)
Location: Onsite – Agawam,
MA


Role Summary
The Hardware Engineer I will support the research, design, development, assembly, and testing of computer-related and sensor hardware systems used in medical device applications. This role focuses on hands-on laboratory and cleanroom work, assisting senior engineers with prototype builds, electrical testing, debugging, data collection, and test process improvements. The position is ideal for early-career engineers (0–2 years experience) seeking practical exposure in a fast-paced, regulated engineering environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
The Hardware Engineer I will drive and assist with the following day-to-day activities:
  • Assemble and test sensor interconnects and prototype hardware components
  • Debug electrical test equipment and prototype materials
  • Build, test, and modify product prototypes using physical and computer-simulated models
  • Generate and document test procedures, scripts, and workflows to improve efficiency
  • Collect, organize, and analyze test data
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend or implement necessary modifications
  • Assist in determining hardware configurations based on cost, reporting, and security requirements
  • Assemble and modify existing equipment to meet specialized testing or design needs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Innovation and Technology
  • Perform additional engineering support tasks as required
 
Required Skills (Top 3 – Non-Negotiable)
  1. Familiarity with electrical test equipment
  2. Strong attention to detail
  3. Good written and verbal communication skills
 
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with LabVIEW
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Experience with JMP
  • Exposure to engineering design or simulation software
  • Basic understanding of telecommunications systems and signal transmission concepts
 
Technical Knowledge & Competencies
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design techniques, tools, and principles
  • Understanding of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware/software
  • Familiarity with precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong teamwork skills with a detail-oriented mindset
 
Education & Experience
  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering
    • Preferred disciplines: Electrical, Biomedical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience: 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience
 
Software & Tools
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Engineering design and testing software (as applicable)
