Job Summary

The Phlebotomist III is responsible for performing a wide range of phlebotomy and specimen-processing duties at multiple locations. This role includes specimen collection, troubleshooting, training, workflow support, and ensuring proper documentation and handling of all samples according to established procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles.

• Explain venipuncture or other specimen collection procedures (urine, fecal, etc.) clearly and courteously to patients.

• Collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to test requirements.

• Match requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure 100% accuracy.

• Update patient information and maintain accurate records.

• Record maintenance and decontamination data for equipment.

• Package and prepare specimens for transport following temperature and protocol guidelines.

• Comply with OSHA, DEP, and all safety regulations.

• Attend annual departmental training sessions.

• Answer phone calls and relay laboratory results as needed.

• Provide workflow assistance, troubleshooting, and training as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).

• 6+ months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

• 4-6 years of overall experience preferred.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• High School Diploma or GED.
