Job Title: Assistant Purchaser
Location: Wallingford, CT 06492
Duration: 12 months (temp to hire)
Shift/Hours: 40hours/week
Work Model: 5 days onsite per week
 
Summary:

• Assistant Purchaser / Buyer to support procurement activities for Transmission & Distribution (T&D) group.
• This role supports purchasing activities across the full project lifecycle, including material procurement, vendor coordination, purchase order management, and expediting.
• The ideal candidate has construction or utility background, and is a detail-oriented, quick learner who can work effectively within a growing procurement team.
• They must also be skilled in contract negotiation, risk evaluation, and demonstrate persistence, along with strong people skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support purchasing responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle, including ordering materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Prepare procurement documents and purchase agreements aligned to engineering and project specifications.
• Assist with vendor bid evaluations, proposal reviews, and technical evaluations.
• Prepare purchase order documentation and submit POs through the internal purchasing system for approval.
• Issue purchase orders to vendors/subcontractors and obtain/log order acknowledgements.
• Follow up with vendors on shipment schedules and delivery timelines.
• Assist with expediting vendor submittals to support design completion and construction activities.
• Compile and maintain procurement status reports and material expediting reports.
• Assist with sourcing, qualifying, and evaluating suppliers based on pricing, reliability, and industry experience.
• Support the preparation of RFP packages, including drawings, scopes, and specifications.
• Research pricing, compare quotations, and assist with cost comparison and analysis.
• Support contract review, risk evaluation, and vendor coordination efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with client policies and standards.

Education & Experience required:

• Ideal experience 3-8 Years, 3 min for CWK role and 8 at the max for DH role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Business, Law, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements

Preferred / Ideal Experience:

• Transmission & Distribution (T&D) project experience strongly preferred.
• Utility, power, or heavy construction background.
• Experience with Oracle Financials R12 or similar ERP systems.
• Exposure to contract negotiation, vendor risk evaluation, and supplier management.
• Prior experience working in an EPC or engineering & construction environment.
