Job Description
Supplier quality engineers are responsible for collaborating with suppliers, engineering, and schedulers to ensure quality products are delivered to customers. Responsibilities may vary depending on business needs and assigned initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Participate in PPAP processes, writing, reviewing, and approving PPAPs
- Review supply constraints or quality concerns and issue deviations if necessary
- Participate in new supplier launches to ensure parts are made to spec and delivered on time from supplier
- Keep and maintain project timelines for multiple part changes and launches
- Devise sampling procedures and design forms/instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data
- Establish programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment, testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities
- May write training material and conduct training sessions on quality control activities
- May specialize in areas of quality control engineering, including design, incoming material, process control, product evaluation, product reliability, inventory control, metrology, automated testing, software, R&D, and administrative application
- Attend supplier meetings and collaborate with suppliers on timing and paperwork
- Follow up with engineering and partner with leadership on prioritization
- Proactively identify what needs to be done and follow up as needed
- Source additional suppliers where required
- Strong attention to detail with cross-functional collaboration to meet deadlines
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Supply Chain, Business, or related field acceptable for some flexibility)
- 5-7 years of relevant experience preferred
- Supplier quality background and some project management experience
- PPAP knowledge required
- Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving ability
- Team player and detail oriented
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
- Experience with engineering-related software such as CAD
- Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred, not required)
- Data analytics knowledge is a plus
- Any additional certifications are desirable but not required
