Job Description
Title: Mechanical Technician IV
Duration: 11+ months (possible extension)
Location: Seattle, WA (occasional travel to Redmond)
Overview:
This position is fundamental to the operational support provided to collaborators. The incumbent will engage directly in the operation of industrial-grade CNC machining equipment, execute part programming using standardized CAM templates, maintain communication with customers, and ensure adherence to delivery schedules.
As CNC machining is a critical component of the prototyping services offered, ideal candidates will have a foundation in digital design along with a strong interest in fabrication. Comprehensive training will be provided to the selected candidate to support success in this role.
Responsibilities:

Program parts efficiently using standardized CAM templates within Fusion 360.

Load and unload materials, monitor machine status, and initiate production runs at scheduled intervals to meet delivery commitments.

Retrieve finished components from machinery and perform required cleaning and post-processing, ensuring critical features are preserved or enhanced.

Update the task management platform to keep requesters informed of job status and progress.

Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain equipment and ensure the availability of required tools and materials for uninterrupted production.
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience with digital design tools (2D or 3D), such as Fusion 360 or other CAD/CAM software.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to understand diverse customer requirements and adapt approaches accordingly.

A genuine passion for creation and fabrication (e.g., artistic work, mechanical tinkering, crafts).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a clear and concise communication style.
Preferred Qualifications:

Prior digital fabrication experience in a prototyping environment, particularly involving CNC machining.

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree.

Hands-on experience operating CNC machining equipment (hobbyist or commercial).

Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Mastercam.
Must Haves:

Digital Design Expertise: Proficiency in a range of digital design tools, including CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360, with the ability to adapt to new systems and efficiently program parts using templated CAM programs.

Client-Focused Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working directly with clients to understand their needs, provide tailored solutions, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced production environment.

Hands-on Maker Mindset: A strong passion for hands-on problem-solving and making things, with a background in activities such as art, tinkering, crafts, or other related pursuits that demonstrate creativity, curiosity, and practical skill.
