Role: Mechanical Testing Technician
Location: Cupertino, CA
Duration: 6 Months
We're looking for a mechanical testing technician passionate about materials characterization who will ensure battery products perform exceptionally. You'll combine hands-on mechanical testing with rigorous data collection to validate material properties and measure real-world performance of thin layer materials. You'll understand not just what materials do, but how they perform under various mechanical and reliability conditions.

Key Responsibilities
Material Characterization & Hands-On Testing
- Execute comprehensive material characterization tests using specialized mechanical testing equipment
- Perform systematic stress-strain property extraction from thin layer materials used in battery products
- Design and implement test protocols for mechanical test scenarios.
- Identify and classify material properties that reveal performance characteristics and areas for improvement
- Generate detailed test reports to capture overall material performance and reliability metrics
- Design, execute, and manage mechanical testing protocols that capture material behavior under real-world conditions
- Collect, organize, and validate datasets
- Analyze collected mechanical test data to surface patterns, anomalies, and performance insights
- Create detailed documentation and reports that translate technical findings
Sample Preparation & Testing Operations
- Sample Management
- Prepare test samples according to established protocols and quality standards
- Document sample preparation methodologies for reproducibility and team knowledge-sharing
- Collaborate with development teams to refine testing approaches and material specifications
- Communicate findings clearly—both technical results and their implications for product performance
- Contribute to test plan design and documentation that ensure product quality standards
- Deliver accurate and timely results with exceptional attention to detail
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of proven experience with mechanical testing and reliability testing
- Hands-on experience with material characterization equipment and stress-strain testing (Instron tensile, electropulse)
- Preferably experienced with thin layer materials testing
- Meticulous attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to travel between office locations (Santa Clara Valley) as required.
- Familiarity with mechanical testing standards and protocols
- Experience with data analysis and statistical interpretation
- Required between different office locations (all locations are within Santa Clara Valley)
- Material characterization for battery product applications
