Job Description
Title: Functional Business Analyst (Commercial Finance)
Duration: 9 Months with possible extensions
Location: Waterloo, ON (3 days a week in office)
Overview:
· The Functional Business Analyst will play a key role in understanding core system features and capabilities related to commercial finance, equipment leasing, asset-backed lending, and floor planning, translating client needs into effective business and technical solutions.
In this role, you will:
· Analyze and interpret client business requirements across commercial lending and leasing processes, including credit origination, underwriting, contract structuring, funding, servicing, asset tracking, billing, collections, and end-of-term management.
· Design intuitive user experiences, operational workflows, and data requirements tailored to commercial finance and dealer financing operations.
· Identify required reference data such as asset details, pricing parameters, credit rules, amortization structures, and dealer hierarchy information.
· Review, write, and update business requirements, functional specifications, and business process documentation for proposed solutions.
· Create detailed business process review documents that translate analysis results into actionable solution changes.
· Define and document interfaces across systems, including CRM platforms, credit decision engines, document management systems, funding and settlement systems, dealer portals, and general ledger integrations.
· Support the entire project lifecycle—from initial discovery and solution design through configuration, testing, deployment, client onboarding, and post-production support.
· Serve as a key liaison between clients, development teams, product teams, and support, ensuring solutions meet business needs and operational expectations.
· Participate in Agile project teams; familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies is beneficial.
Must Have:
· Min 7 years experience in BA role.
· Strong knowledge/experience in one or more of commercial finance of large ticket items (autos etc), floor planning, leasing, very important.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree and significant experience in commercial finance, equipment leasing, floor planning, dealer financing, or related financial services domains.
· Strong functional knowledge of end-to-end lending and leasing processes, including origination, credit assessment, funding, contract lifecycle management, servicing, collections, and end-of-term workflows.
· Experience with applications and platforms that support commercial lending, leasing, or dealer financing (e.g., loan origination systems, lease management systems, credit decision engines, dealer portals).
· Ability to simplify and streamline complex financial or operational processes.
· Excellent verbal communication skills — this role is highly client-facing and requires leading workshops, interviews, and design sessions.
· Excellent written communication skills — including the ability to clearly document requirements, functional specifications, process flows, and interface definitions.
· Experience reviewing and mapping business processes within commercial lending or leasing operations.
· Familiarity with compliance, risk management, asset tracking, reconciliation, and reporting requirements within commercial finance is an asset.
· Experience working within Agile delivery environments, particularly Scrum, is beneficial.
· Excellent verbal communication skills - this role is client-facing.
· Excellent written communication skills - designing and documenting requirements
