Job Description

Linguist II
Remote (
 prefer Remote, Redmond, Burlingame, or NY that way they can come in office to visit team as needed but not required)
12 months 

The main function of a Linguist is to determine language and visual data needs for data based model and product improvements.

Job Responsibilities:
-Provide linguistic expertise, especially in the areas of syntax, semantics, taxonomies, and NLU
-Develop strategies for labeling visual and language data together
-Create guidelines in support of labeling projects that allow vendor labelers to consistently label language, visual, and motion data at quality
-Analyze labeling quality and adjust guidelines as necessary to ensure labeling quality. Enforce labeling standards

Skills:
-Knowledge of syntax, semantics, and taxonomies
-Ability to work in ambiguous space and develop norms and processes
-Knowledge of prescriptive writing and punctuation conventions for at least one language.
-Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
-Knowledge in transcription and annotation systems such as SAMPA, IPA and ToBI.

Top 3 must-have HARD skills:
-Knowledge of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, corpus linguistics, and other areas of linguistics
-Experience with SQL, spreadsheets, and other data tools
-Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Education/Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, language technologies, computational linguistics, or related field. Occasion
 
Must Have:

  • Experience with data annotation or labeling
  • Programming SQL like to have Python experience
  • Technical writing skills
  • Design and conduct experiments for evaluating data quality
 
Good to have skills:
  • Quality assurance
  • Chat bot system
