Floating Locations: Capital Heights and La Plata

Shift Hours:

• Must be available Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

• Full shift is not required for the entire window — most locations close by 4:30 PM, a few close at 6:00 PM

• Typical shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Job Description

Summary:
The primary function of the Phlebotomist is to perform blood collection and related duties while ensuring patient comfort and safety. The role includes troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements when necessary.

Position Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge as required.

• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks per procedures.

• Update patient information in the system with accuracy.

• Collect and store specimens according to established protocols.

• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine, fecal).

• Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.

• Fully understand and follow physicians’ orders.

• Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes.

• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.

• Package specimens for transportation.

• Store specimens according to required temperature guidelines before transport.
