Job Title: Electrical CAD Technician 
Location: Kansas City, MO 64114
Duration: 12-month Assignment with potential for early or end-of-term conversion
Shift/Hours: 40hours/week
 
Overview:

• We are seeking a CAD/GIS hybrid technician to join the NIA GIS team supporting a large, fast-paced Network Planning program.
• This role is ideal for someone who brings professional GIS experience but is also comfortable working in drafting/CAD environments to ensure long-term versatility within the team.
• The position supports post-construction fiber documentation, network records updates, and GIS-driven design workflows. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Network Planning Team by documenting and updating post-fiber passes, build completions, and construction records.
• Maintain accurate GIS and CAD-based network documentation in accordance with client and internal standards.
• Work within the NIA GIS framework to update fiber routes, correct network records, and ensure all data is current and reliable.
• Utilize ArcGIS Pro and related tools to analyze, interpret, and update geospatial data.
• Assist with CAD drafting tasks using Revit, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other drafting tools depending on project needs.
• Interpret network plans, fiber routing documentation, and construction updates to reflect accurate field conditions.
• Collaborate closely with a small (3-4 person) team that sits within a much larger Network Planning organization.
• Communicate status updates, ask questions when clarification is needed, and raise issues proactively.

 Required Qualifications:

• Certification or Associate's/Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, GIS, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 6+ months of professional GIS experience (must be from a workplace, not school-only experience).
• Strong working knowledge of GIS platforms; ArcGIS Pro is a plus.
• Foundational drafting or CAD experience with one or more of the following:
• Revit
• AutoCAD
• MicroStation
• Civil or electrical drafting software
• Interest in performing both GIS and drafting tasks (not strictly GIS-only).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with weekly task expectations and shifting priorities.
• Willingness to speak up when unclear, raise issues, and communicate with team leads.

 Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in fiber, broadband, telecom, or network infrastructure environments.
• Previous work with fiber routing, telecom mapping, or network documentation.

 Soft Skills & Team Fit:

• Comfortable in a collaborative team that values communication, support, and initiative.
• Can be quiet or heads-down but MUST be willing to ask questions when needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data accuracy.
• Comfortable adapting to changing workloads and priorities.
