Job Description
Job Title: Lab Manager
Location: 100% onsite; North Chicago, IL; 60064
Duration: 12 months
Work Schedule: - 8-4, no OT expected.
Purpose:
Responsible for supporting Process Chemistry and Engineering operations within the Pharmaceutical Products Group - API at Client’s Lake County. The Lab Manager will work directly with organizing laboratory spaces, managing chemical and equipment inventories, and assisting department chemists in optimizing lab usage. The incumbent should possess working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as HPLC and apply this expertise to maintain efficient laboratory operations and support ongoing research activities.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain laboratories in clean, safe, functioning state. Transition the labs to be more efficient using the principles of 5S.
2. Maintain department shared instruments including UPLC’s and LCMS’s in working order through periodic routine maintenance.
3. Assist in relocation of equipment during ongoing lab renovations.
4. Manage laboratory equipment and chemical inventories including organizing periodic clean-outs.
5. Coordinate routine maintenance of isolators and other potent handling equipment and supplies of personal protective equipment for R14 potent lab.
6. Develop and maintain inventory system and periodic defrost cycles for department freezers.
7. Set up experimental apparatus as necessary
8. With some supervision, perform experiments to assist researchers
9. Create work aids for operating equipment and train new users.
10. Promote and enforce safe work practices in the laboratories.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s in chemistry or related field with laboratory experience.
2. Working knowledge of HPLC is highly desirable.
3. Excellent written communication, oral communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
4. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

They will have projects planned, check with maintenance for what PMS will need to be ran. Know what to coordinate with scientist for what equipment is available.
