Job Summary

The Lab Assistant I works in a high-volume, production-based environment and performs critical pre-analytical functions that support clinical laboratory operations. This role is essential for accurate specimen processing and smooth workflow across the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, and organize clinical laboratory specimens.

• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.

• Scan and/or perform data entry of specimen and patient information.

• Ensure all laboratory equipment is functioning properly; perform minor maintenance as needed.

• Troubleshoot specimen-related issues and escalate when necessary.

• Replenish test bench supplies and maintain inventory.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.

• Complete logs, documentation, and administrative tasks as assigned.

• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety/quality guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Prior medical, laboratory, or production experience preferred.

• Ability to handle biological specimens safely and comfortably.

• Strong specimen identification and verification skills.

• Basic computer proficiency and accurate data entry skills.

• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment and meet turnaround times.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

• Must pass a standardized color blindness test.

• Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
