Job Title: Mainframe Development Lead
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Southlake, TX (preferred), Austin, TX, or any Schwab location (Hybrid 3 days onsite in every week)
Job Description:
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Lead technical development across a distributed mainframe environment
Collaborate with onshore and offshore engineering teams
Hands-on development (approx. 25–30%)
Partner with product owners, business analysts, and QA teams throughout the SDLC
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and resolve complex issues
Ensure quality delivery that meets business and regulatory requirements
Mentor and guide junior engineers
Identify opportunities to automate processes and streamline testing
Participate in knowledge transfer to strengthen team capabilities
Must-Have Skills:
14+ years in mainframe technologies: COBOL, JCL, DB2, Datacom, VSAM, SQL, SQL Stored Procedures, Messaging Queues, CICS, Easytrieve, SORT utilities. (at the very least 12 years here per Alex)
7+ years with scheduling/tools: Control-M, ChangeMan, FileAid, Xpeditor, Startool, TOAD, SPUFI
4+ years in financial services, ideally with DTCC or SEC exposure
2+ years in brokerage, custody, or settlements
Deep Agile knowledge (JIRA, Rally) and strong RCA/debugging skills
Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership presence
Pluses:
Experience in financial services with revenue-generating teams
Leading cross-functional initiatives and knowledge transfer
Strong ability to manage multiple priorities independently in fast-paced environments
