Position: Art Director
Location: NYC, NY (Hybrid, 3 days/week)
Duration: 6 Months
 
Job Description:
The ideal candidate is digital-focused but print-familiar and able to seamlessly shift between design, art direction, and data visualization for complex financial and business stories. This Art Director will be part of a three-person design team and will report to the Head of Visuals.
 
Must Haves:

• Deep newsroom experience
• Experience in publication design department (no junior roles)
• An assertive, production orientated go getter 

Required:

• 5+ years in an editorial department or newsroom role
• Great communication skills and comfort working directly with editors
• Excellent journalistic judgment and integrity
• Excellent grasp of visual and typographical hierarchy
• Knowledge of news, politics, finance
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom–juggling hourly, daily, and weekly deadlines
• Experience assigning and art directing illustration
• An existing network of artists with the ability to identify fresh and emerging talent
• The ability to distill data into easily digestible visualizations and walk readers through complex information in an engaging way
• Adobe CC expertise
• Basic HTML + CSS, other applicable web languages related to data
• Visualization
• At ease working in a digital CMS, e.g., Wordpress
• Experience with Figma is a plus
• Experience with Methode or other print-related CMS is a plus
• Interest in and understanding of the financial world is a plus
